With a covered area of 16.000 m2, Carpetright’s warehouse is the largest in Europe in the floor covering sector.
About 11.000 carpet rolls per week and 500.000 units per year pass through the building.

After a period operating a range of different lift trucks, the company decided to invest in fork lift trucks from a single supplier.
According to the company these had to be reliable and durable with low maintenance costs and an efficient customer care service.
These characteristics had to be coupled with high levels of production, efficiency and low running costs.

The logistics operations controller and the Warehouse manager were given the job of sourcing the warehouse equipment. They contacted the English branch of Cesab to find out which reseller would be able to organize the running of the warehouse and at the same time guarantee maximum efficiency and productivity from the machines and effectively reduce maintenance costs.

After detailed analysis of the client’s needs, the Cesab Dealer proposed a fork lift trucks pool consisting of six Blitz 300L and nine Mak trucks.
The Blitz 300L trucks were chosen because of their agility and ease of manoeuvrability, characteristics necessary for work in Carpetright’s older warehouse which has narrow aisles and limited space.
In the newer warehouse, the larger Mak trucks operate as their lifting capacity enables them to reach the highest shelves.
These two types of fork lift trucks have the same battery compartment, thus saving money on recharging.
Every truck was fitted with a special “spike”, allowing fast and precise carpet roll picking. The trucks were also equipped with a computer to enable quick identification of the products on the shelves.
